Association of Air Force Missileers "Victors in the Cold War" The AAFM Newsletter - We publish a quarterly twenty page newsletter in March, June, September and December. You can review past issues in the Newsletter Library that is part of this web page. The March 2009 issue included part two of "what missileers did after missiles", a superb article by a Grand Forks crew member, David Lien, in the early 1990s, a summary of SAC inspection and evaluation programs, an artilce about the early days of BMO and the MMRBM and a part one of "Fifty Years of ICBM Alert." June 2009 includes more on "50 Years of ICBM Alert", part III of "What Missileers Did After...", Part II of the series on early BMO work, featuring ABRES, an article about Memories of early SAC missile alert days and stories on the recent 51 MMS reunion and the Bitburg artifacts. The June 2009 issue included the second part of "50 Years of ICBM Alert", part III of "What Missileers Did After...", Part II of the series on early BMO work, featuring ABRES, an article about Memories of early SAC missile alert days and stories on the recent 51 MMS reunion and the Bitburg artifacts. September 2009 continued the "50 Years of ICBM Alert" with an article by the commander of AF Space Command, a brief history of missile alert and an alert chronology, an Airlaunch update, report on the Proplulsion Replacement Program, the 1381st Geodetic Survey Squadron reunion, dedication of a Minuteman II at Peterson, activation of Global Strike Command and Air Force news releases. The December 2009 issue leads with an article by the commander of the new AF Global Stike Command and articles about the command, AAFM and the 50th Anniversary of Alert commemoration, Tactical Missile Alert Milestones, a new poem by Bob Wyckoff, a review of Sheehan´s book about Schriever, part one of "Cold War Warrior" by a missile propelants technician and other articles. Members can now have access to an electronic version of our newsletter instead of receiving a mailed printed copy. This new method will allow us to apply the savings in printing and postage to other AAFM programs, and get your newsletter to you faster. To have access to the new electronic version, your dues must be current. Over 250 members have signed up to date. Return of the Missile Badge - Return of the Missile Badge - on 6 June 2008, Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne and Air Force Chief of Staff T. Michael Moseley conducted a ceremony at the Naitonal Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton,awarding the missile badge with operations designator to 14 officers representing the ICBM wings and training and test units. Issue of the missile badge had been discontinued in 2005, replaced by the Missile and Space Badge, the new wing-like badge shown below. As a move to reemphasize the importance of the nuclear mission, missile operators will once again wear the missile badge. Maintainers had continued to wear the original missile badge, now called the missile maintenance badge. We offer miniature lapel pins of all the badges on our Donations/Store page. ![]() E-Mail Addresses - If you are an AAFM member, ensure that your e-mail address is registered with AAFM for our monthly e-mail updates. Air Force Missileers Book - The AAFM book featuring a history of all ground and air launched missiles, histories of other special events and activities, photos, poems, cartoons, a listing of more than 5,000 missileers, bios of over 300 AAFM members and much more was published in November, 1998. Now available while supplies last driectry from our Donations and store page for a donation of $30. Book updates - there are a number of new books about missiles and missileers, all by AAFM members:
Missile Videos and Photo CDs - Missile Videos and Photo CDs - We have a collection of DVDs and CDs at the Donation Center. CDs include photo collections, historical documents and the dash one technical orders for Atlas, Titan I, Minuteman and Titan II. DVDs include old AF films, documentaries that AAFM members participated in and other missile related films and videos. AAFM Library - We maintain a listing of over 500 sources of data about missiles. This listing is available from AAFM. Source materials are stored at our office and include books, magazines, articles, photographs and much more. Web Page List - AAFM has compiled a list of other web pages with a wide variety of information about missiles, nuclear weapons, museums and other related areas.
