Association of Air Force Missileers "Victors in the Cold War"

The AAFM Newsletter - We publish a quarterly twenty page newsletter in March, June, September and December. You can review past issues in the Newsletter Library that is part of this web page.

The September 2007 issue commemorated three anniversaries, the 25th for Space Command, 40th for the space and missile competition and 60th for the Air Force, with emphasis on the competition. The issue includes a lead article from Gen Kevin Chilton, Commander, AF Space Command, a history of the comp, a number of comp stories, an update on the future of Minuteman, a report on the Atlas 50th reunion and the North Dakota missile site museum. The December issue is a special 15th anniversary review of AAFM, and also includes articles about the AFA and AAFM, Minuteman Guidance Replacement, Gen Kehler on Space, the last Firebee mission, the SAC Memorial, Cape Canaveral Research, a request for volunteers for MIMI, an honor for Maj Gen Tom Deppe and recent missile-related books.

Missileer News - For news about missiles and missileers, try the Mercenary Missileer at www.missilenews.com and join in discussions with other missileers www.missileforums.com.

New Missile and Space Badge - The new badge became an official part of the uniform on 1 November. The badge replaced both the Missile and Space Badge and Missile Badge with Operations Designator. The command reviewed the qualifications of each officer and airman serving in space and missile billets to determine what level of badge was authorized. Those who have crosstrained to non-missile and space billets continue to wear either of the old badges until they leave the Air Force. The Missile Maintenance Badge, the pocket rocket without the ops designator, will still be worn by maintainers. We offer miniature lapel pins of all the badges on our Donations/Store page.
