Association of Air Force Missileers "Victors in the Cold War"

The AAFM Newsletter - We publish a quarterly twenty page newsletter in March, June, September and December. You can review past issues in the Newsletter Library that is part of this web page.

The September 2012 Newsletter featured a "Welcome to Malmstrom" by the wing commander for our 10th National Meeting, Part I of the Cuban Missile Crisis Chronology and a superb story of the early days at the Ground Launch Cruise Missile base in Belgium. The December issue will inlude a full report on our recent National Meeting, Part II of the Cuban Missile Crisis Chronology, some personal stories about the Cuban Crisis from members and other articles.

The number of Members who have selected the Electronic Version of our quarterly newsletter continues to grow - over 1,000 members now prefer this version. The advantages are access about a month before the mailed issue and the version is in full color. It has allowed us substantial savings in printing and postage, and we have applied the funds to other AAFM programs. To have access to the new electronic version, your dues must be current. Email us at aafm@afmissileers.org to request access to the electronic version.

Return of the Missile Badge - Return of the Missile Badge - on 6 June 2008, Secretary of the Air Force Michael Wynne and Air Force Chief of Staff T. Michael Moseley conducted a ceremony at the Naitonal Museum of the US Air Force in Dayton, awarding the missile badge with operations designator to 14 officers representing the ICBM wings and training and test units. Issue of the missile badge had been discontinued in 2005, replaced by the Missile and Space Badge, the new wing-like badge shown below. As a move to reemphasize the importance of the nuclear mission, missile operators will once again wear the missile badge. Maintainers had continued to wear the original missile badge, now called the missile maintenance badge. We offer miniature lapel pins of all the badges on our Donations/Store page.
